Birdman vs. Predator: Chris Andersen Cleared From Child Pornography Charges
Added by Jacque Medina on September 19, 2013.
It turns out Chris “Birdman” Andersen isn’t the entire pervert some may have thought he was. The tattooed forward for the Miami Heat was recently cleared in a child pornography investigation, and it appears as though he was the victim of a giant Internet hoax orchestrated by a 29-year-old Canadian woman.
Easterville, Manitoba-native Shelly Lynn Chartier, who will probably go down in history as the queen of all catfish, admitted that she not only posed as Andersen to talk to underage girls, but also posed as other people online in order to communicate with Anderson.
According to the NY Daily News, “Investigators were acting off a tip from a teen-aged girl from California who apparently became upset when Andersen lost interest in keeping a relationship after the two had sex in his Larkspur home.
The teen contacted authorities after she received a threat from Chartier, posing as Andersen, that the basketball player would release obscene pictures of her that were taken when she was under 18.”
Chartier was discovered after she, posing as the girl’s family, tried to extort more that $5,000 from Andersen.
Creepiness aside, Andersen didn’t technically break any laws regarding statutory rape, because the age of consent in Colorado is 17 (this was when Andersen was still playing for the Nuggets), and the girl was older than that at the time.
In a statement released by Birdman’s lawyer, Andersen is just excited to escape all the public backlash he received as a result of this double-catfish, child pornography investigation, and is ready to salvage his reputation.
Because it was so squeaky-clean before?
