It’s a Family Reunion; Smith Brothers Making Noise with New York Knicks
Added by Steven Korn on September 12, 2013.
This past week, the Smith brothers have absolutely dominated the news surrounding the New York Knicks.
First it was older brother J.R. guaranteeing a Knicks championship in a Q&A at Chelsea Piers. Next was J.R. getting, not so surprisingly, suspended for five games this upcoming season. After all that, it was the younger brothers turn. Chris Smith started with a tattoo of J.R.’s face on his back and followed that up by signing a non-guaranteed contract with the Knicks just a few days later.

It is disappointing that the elder Smith is suspended due to failing his third test for marijuana use. The reigning Sixth Man of the Year will miss five games because of the suspension, but the suspension will not begin until Smith is fully healthy and ready to play (who is going to determine that, I have no idea).
As for his championship guarantee, that is hard to dislike. Both Smith and Carmelo Anthony seem extremely determined to get their first ring and they think this is their year. It will be tough for the Knicks with such a stacked Eastern Conference, but confidence is necessary to make it happen and they certainly have that.
As for Chris Smith, him and his Summer League teammate, Toure’ Murry, will both be headed to Knicks camp. While neither player is expected to make the Knicks roster, which currently sits at the maximum of 15 players, the two will be able to gain experience with the full team and possibly stay with the franchise in the D-League.
While I wouldn’t go running to Vegas with J.R.’s guarantee, one thing you can be sure of is this is not the last time you’ll see the Smith brother’s making headlines.
