The women’s soccer team headed down to Charlottesville, Va. this past weekend to take part in the Virginia Nike Soccer Classic where they went against William & Mary and Virginia.
Coming off a 3-2 loss to Monmouth on Labor Day, the Pirates needed to get out of this slump and start winning games. Their last meeting with William and Mary ended in a 1-0 loss for the Pirates and this year was no different.
The Pirates did manage to keep their opponent to single-digit attempts, making it the third time that SHU has been able to do it so far this season. On the other hand, Seton Hall had 20 tries at goal but no one was able to make it. William & Mary were held off until the 71st minute when they scored and ultimately winning the game.
On the last day of the Virginia Nike Soccer Classic, Seton Hall took on #5/#4 Virginia and found no stop to their losing streak, falling to UVa 3-0.
However, redshirt goalkeeper Jennifer Pettigrew gave an outstanding performance, setting a career-high and Virginia Nike Soccer Classic Tournament record of 15 saves.
Another thing to take into consideration is that the three goals UVa scored in this game is a season-low for Virginia. The Cavaliers have now outscored their opposition 25-3 after their 6-0 victory against Rutgers who also played in the tournament.
Seton Hall women’s soccer returns home on Thursday as they take on the Princeton Tigers.
