Red Hawks Girls Soccer Picked First in NJAC Preseason Coaches Poll

It was announced on Tuesday that the Montclair State women’s soccer team was picked to repeat as the New Jersey Athletic Conference champions after the New Jersey Athletic Conference released its 2013 Preseason Coaches Poll.
Last year, the women’s soccer team claimed its first conference championship since 2004. It was also their first trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament since 2006. They finished last season 16-2-3, 25-3-5 in its last 33 contests, and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history.
As a bonus, all seven of the Montclair State’s All-Conference selections will be returning. This includes First-Team selections Jessica Bonjione, Stephanie Barbulescu, and junior forward Francesca Gibson. Sophomore Stefanie Gomes will also be returning. Gomes was the NJAC Rookie of the Year in 2013 after she lead Montclair in scoring last season with 12 goals.

The Lady Red Hawks collected six of the ten first-place votes. The College of New Jersey was picked second, followed by Rowan and Richard Stockton. Kean, William Paterson, and Ramapo completed the poll.
The women’s soccer team will begin its 2013 season this Friday, August 30th on the road in Illinois, as they take on Wheaton College in the Bob Baptista Invitational. They Red Hawks will have their first home game on Tuesday, September 4th against Purchase College and will open their NJAC, which is scheduled on Wednesday, September 25th against rival William Paterson.
