On Tuesday August 27, 2013, longtime tennis fan and New York Rangers’ goaltender Hendrik Lundqvist co-hosted “Man Up” to celebrate the newly renovated Men’s 6th floor of Barneys New York in support of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. This grand gala was a fundraiser event in which attendees could shop as well.
The exquisite Men’s store opened 3 days ago and was garnished with high quality luxury designer wears and accessories. The decadence and meticulousness of the organized racks showcased new collections of likes such as Fioroni, Giorgio Armani, Boglioli, Salvatore Piccolo, Greg Lauren and many other remarkable designers.
The thirty-one year old Vezina Trophy-winning hockey player shone in the spotlight wearing a capri, plaid, wool, and cashmere blend blazer with comfy grey slacks and jet black swede oxfords, to top it off. His wife, Therese Andersson-Lundqvist, looked stunning in a soft navy and red spider web gown, after recently giving birth to their first child.
The two hour event hosted notable attendees such as Federica Marchionni (President of Dolce & Gabbana), Michael Bastain (Luxury Fashion Designer), Derick Brassard (Rangers), and Jared Jeffries (Trail Blazers), just to name a few. This was a blend of fashion meets sports in an attempt to unify aspects of two completely different contrivances.
At about midway through, guests were encouraged to purchase keys to unlock clear lock boxes which was a part of the fundraiser that contained mystery luxury items. Some guests bought as many as 10 keys. Barneys New York will donate 100% of the proceeds from the sale of keys and 10% of all proceeds from the sale of merchandise sold during the event to UNICEF in support of their mission to protect the rights of children.
Though it’s not unusual for Mr. Lundqvist to be mingling with fashion moguls, hosting the launch of Barneys New York’s newly renovated Men’s 6th floor certainly was. His love for fashion is a well know fact. Last month, he tweeted a picture of himself wearing a suit for a Mr. Porter photo shoot. Is the possible launch of his own clothing line the next step for Mr. Lundqvist? We’ll just have to wait and see.
