Somerset looked to improve their season-high seven-game win streak on Sunday in the series finale against Sugar Land. Also on the line was the chance of completing their second-consecutive sweep (the other was earlier this week against Lancaster).
Sugar Land scored early on Somerset starter, Graham Taylor, gave up an RBI double to Sugar Land leftfielder Michael Rockett, though an unearned run, in the second inning. In the fourth inning Koby Clemens, son of former big-leaguer Roger Clemens, hit a leadoff homerun to stake the Skeeters to a 2-0 lead.
Graham Taylor went six innings, gave up eight hits, one earned run, two runs total, three walks, and five strikeouts.
That 2-0 score would remain until the top of the seventh inning when Kevin Rios hit an RBI-single into right-centerfield off of Somerset reliever Derell McCall. Sugar Land took a 3-0 lead.
Sugar Land starter Doug Arguello had a phenomenal game. He departed after five innings of play, surrendering three hits, and striking out three.
Somerset waited until the ninth inning to pick up some runs. Adam Donachie drove in a run with two outs in the ninth.
Somerset dropped the game 3-1 and will embark on an eight day road trip against York and Long Island.
