It was a rough night at Perdue Stadium in Salisbury, Maryland yesterday as the Lakewood BlueClaws faced the Delmarva Shorebirds in the second game of their series this week.
Delmarva was able to take the lead early with three runs in the first inning, and another two in the second. This included a two run single by right fielder Roderick Bernadina.
The BlueClaws finally mangaged to get on the board in the top of the fourth, behind a two run double by second baseman Alejando Villalobos.
Lakewood took the lead in the top of the fifth after DH Willie Carmona hit a solo home run, his third of the season. But Delmarva responeded with a run in the bottom of the inning after shortstop Adrian Marin singled on a line drive to center, scoring second baseman Torsten Boss.
The BlueClaws were lucky enough to take the lead in the top of the sixth. However an infield single by catcher Chase Weems in the bottom of the ninth gave the Shorebirds a 7-6 win over Lakewood.
Delmarva righthander Matt Hobgood earned the win, after allowing only one run in four innings, bringing his overall record to 5-1. Lakewood righthander Steven Inch, who earned the save on Monday, took the loss, allowing the run in the ninth. His overall record is now 1-4.
The BlueClaws will be returning home on Thursday when they start a 7 game homestand against West Virginia and Delmarva.
