No progress with Victor Cruz situation: The Newark Star-Ledger quoted John Mara yesterday, saying that there is “nothing to report” when it comes to the contractual situation of the two-time Pro Bowl receiver. At the start of free agency, there were three teams that were reported to make a run at Cruz; the Patriots, Vikings and Rams. The Pats let WR Wes Welker walk but signed WR Danny Amendola to a big contract. Coincidentally, Amendola was with the Rams this past season. The Pats are essentially out at this point.
The Vikings yesterday signed former Packers receiver Greg Jennings to a near $50 million dollar deal. The yearly breakdown of Jennings’ contact hasn’t been released, but you would have to think he will be making between four to five million this upcoming season. Until those details come out, I wouldn’t completely rule out Minnesota, but you can technically rule them out.
As for the Rams, they have a little less than $10 million in cap left and they are the only team to worry about at this point. The Rams have reportedly not even contacted the Giants, yet.
Four teams interested in OG/T Kevin Boothe: Boothe is one of the top priorities for the Giants this off-season but they have yet to make an offer. CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reports that along with the Giants, the Cardinals, Jets and Panthers are interested. The Jets did sign OT Willie Colon to a one-year $1.2 million contract yesterday but they still have enough cap room.
WR Louis Murphy will visit the Giants today: ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported yesterday that Panthers free agent Louis Murphy will make a trip to East Rutherford to visit with the Giants. Murphy played three years in Oakland before playing with the Panthers last year. He posted decent numbers his first two years catching 75 passes, 1,130YDS and 6TDs. The past two years he’s disappeared. Murphy has 40REC, 577YDS and 1TD in 27 games.
LB Dan Connor to visit Giants: We don’t know when, but CSN Philly’s Geoff Mosher reported that Connor will visit the Giants. Connor has already visited the Steelers and Raiders but no deal was reached. He’s been in the league five years, spending four in Carolina and last season in Dallas. In 27 career starts, he has 123TKLs, 1FF and 1 sack.
