The NY/NJ Comets will be joining the National Pro Fastpitch League for the upcoming 2013 season. Owner/GM Michael Neuwirth announced the hiring of Jay Nelson as head coach of the franchise.
Nelson is currently in his sixth season as head coach of the Rutgers University softball program. Prior to being hired at Rutgers, Nelson was an assistant coach at Seton Hall for ten years, winning two Big East Championships there. He also coached softball at the high school level for 12 years and played competitively for a men’s fast pitch team known as the New Jersey Windmillers.
“Jay’s extensive coaching background and passion for the sport makes him the ideal coach for our inaugural season,” stated Neuwirth. “I have followed Rutgers softball over the years and Jay’s connection with his players and fans was apparent.”
The Comets will play their home games at minor league baseball stadiums in New York and New Jersey, including TD Bank Park, home to the Somerset Patriots. For more information about the NY/NJ Comets and to order game tickets, visit www.cometsprosoftball.com.
