Over a week after working him out, the New York Jets have signed veteran quarterback David Garrard. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
This is a poor reflection on the state of the Jets’ affairs. With all due respect to Garrard – this is how you address creating competition at quarterback? If a quarterback who hasn’t played in two years as a result of knee and back injuries poses a threat to the starter, it doesn’t say much for your quarterback play.
Garrard has an excellent chance of seeing the field at some point, as both Jets’ brass and the fans seem to have lost their patience with Mark Sanchez. As the incumbent, Sanchez has the inside track on the job, but even if he is anointed the starter come Week One, the leash will be short.
Regardless who is under center for Gang Green, I would suggest that the Jets make it a point to get their quarterback some weapons.
