Today’s post is from former Rutgers Women’s Basketball star and current member of the New York Liberty of the WNBA, Essence Carson. Essence will be posting a blog on the fifteenth of every month.

Greetings from Istanbul!

Hope all is well with everyone checking the blog out. Well, as I’m sure you’ve concluded already, this has been a challenging year here in Istanbul. Taking a last place team, reconstructing everything from top to bottom, and setting a goal this club has yet seen, can seem beyond challenging. Since my arrival here, I’ve witnessed tremendous growth from my teammates. Those without “big game” experience are coming around and becoming a more matured/experienced basketball player. Although we’ve fluctuated between the middle of the pack in terms of league rankings, this has taught me something beyond the wins and losses. Trials lead to triumphs. I’ve taken this as a challenge to become a better leader. Leadership is critical when building a successful organization. Teamwork makes the dream work is seemingly so cliche, but somehow hits the nail right on the head. Without his/her team who can the leader lead? In this case, every one is important in creating our success. I dream of championship and work even harder to get there. Our time- my time- is not up yet. I know it is only the beginning.

Sometimes you need a mental break from the basketball court. For me, music is exactly that. Being able to have my album completed, work on packaging, pending video shoots, and even the follow-up mixture, gives me that breath of fresh air when things begin to become stale. Shooting the video for “Bye” will be nothing short of exciting. Having already shot two videos, seems like I now have the hang of things and it has become second nature being in front of a camera solo. The bloopers, 200 takes, and on-set energy give me an adrenaline rush. You couple that with my drive and passion for music, it becomes the best  breath of fresh hair you’ve ever inhaled. Continue to check out the twitter feed Twitter.com/Pr3pe, EssenceCarson.com, Facebook.com/Pr3pe , and Facebook.com/Essencecarson17 for any updates regarding music. Just to give you a little insight- the mixture following the album will definitely be full of story-telling. Be ready! :)

Lastly, my return to States is nearing. Being away from home for so long allows you to miss what you may have taken for granted in the past. Your eyes begin to open. You begin to cherish your loved ones. While I’ve been here, I’ve lost a family member. I didn’t get a chance to say good-bye, but I do have a chance to continue on this journey they call life. Live, learn, laugh, and last but not least- LOVE.

Signing out from the ‘Bul,

EC17
