NWSL Draft on Friday, Sky Blue Also To Hold Open Tryouts

Added by Steven Farkas on January 17, 2013.

The NWSL college draft will be held on Friday in Indianapolis at the NSCAA Convention.  There will 32 total draft picks and the draft will follow what is referred to as a snake format, which means teams will choose 1-8 and then switch to 8-1.  Sky Blue will be able to add 4 more players to their roster bringing the total roster as of Friday to eleven.

“The forming of rosters is always an exciting part for teams and fans and an important step for our new league,” said NWSL Executive Director Cheryl Bailey. “There are some extremely talented young players coming out of college this year and we are thrilled that there will be an environment for them to continue to grow as players and showcase themselves for international call-ups in the future.”

Sky Blue will fill the remaining roster needs through open tryouts on January 24th and 25th, and a second round of tryouts on March 11th and 12th.  All of these tryouts will be at the Metuchen SportsPlex.  There will be two training sessions per day at each of the open tryouts, with a two-hour morning workout that will begin at 10:00 a.m. and a second one in the afternoon from 3-5:00 p.m. These times are subject to change, but participants will be notified if that occurs.  Each of these two day tryouts will cost $100.
