WWE “Locks-In” Top Matches For Wrestlemania 29?

Added by DieHard Derek on January 16, 2013.

With the Royal Rumble just a few short weeks away, WWE creative and management has reportedly locked-in what will be the top matches for this year’s Wrestlemania 29, taking place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ on April 7th.

Here is the rumored rundown…along with some DieHard opinion:

John Cena vs The Rock II – For the WWE Championship
In a sequel to last year’s heavily publicized main event, John Cena is expected to challenge The Rock to a rematch, this time with the gold on the line. The rumor mill has been swirling that The Rock is expected to dethrone CM Punk for the championship at either the Royal Rumble or next moth’s Elimination Chamber PPV – which also has the The Rock advertised to participate. Given Rock’s Hollywood schedule, he is expected to drop the tile and return last year’s favor to John Cena.

Randy Orton vs. Sheamus – For The WWE Heavyweight Title
Awkward, isn’t it? neither star is currently the champion, nor are they in the title picture. Alberto Del Rio just won the title from The Big Show last week on Smackdown, and they will clash in a rematch at the Royal Rumble. Dolph Ziggler has yet to cash-in his Money In The Bank briefcase, and he is expected to have a run with the title in 2013 – unless creative has now decided to have him takeout Cena sometime during the year post-Wrestlemania. Creative is currently working on turning Randy Orton heel (as per his request), and there has been talk of Sheamus winning the Rumble for the second consecutive year. Does anyone have a theory as to how these pieces of the puzzle will fit together by April 7th?… I have mine.

Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar – Grudge Match
Not much has been heard from either party since SummerSlam…and that might be a good thing. Lesnar return was less than spectacular and his feud with Triple H doesn’t do much to help progress the creative direction of the product. With Lesnar defeating Trips over the summer, “The game” will cash in his receipt for a victory over the former MMA star who is expected back in the fold sometime in February.

CM Punk vs. The Undertaker
After last year’s End of an Era match – which improved Undertaker’s Wrestlemania win streak to 20-0 – many were wondering if we had seen the last of The Dead Man…apparently not. Word is that Taker only made his decision a few weeks ago, after long consideration over who his opponent would be. The Rock’s name was thrown into the mix, as was Brock Lesnar, John Cena, and even Ryback. But the one that made most sense is WWE’s MVP – CM Punk. After holding the WWE title for nearly 500 days, what else could be left for the self-proclaimed “Best In The World” to achieve? How about ending the streak? Taker had to approve his opponent before creative can get started working on the program, and reportedly CM Punk has gotten the nod to attempt an accomplishment 20 other have failed to do.

What are your thoughts on Wrestlemania 29′s proposed key matches? If they are in fact locked-in, it could shape up to be a pretty exciting – yet predictable – event. Do you agree? If not, what matches would want to see at Wrestlemania 29?
