Athlete’s Voices: Essence Carson, Episode 2
Added by Guest on December 15, 2012.
This is the DoubleGSports.com Athlete’s Voices column in which local star athletes provide guest posts updating their fans on what they have been up to. Today’s post is from former Rutgers Women’s Basketball star and current member of the New York Liberty of the WNBA, Essence Carson. Essence will be posting a blog on the fifteenth of every month.
Greetings from Istanbul!
Well, it’s been an up and down month, but I am still all smiles. After last week’s loss to former teammates, Amaya Valdemoro and Michelle Campbell, we now sit at .500. Management decided to make a coaching change in order to revitalize the team and get back on track. We’ve been working extremely hard and diligently to turn things in the right direction. So, everyone is really excited about this upcoming weekend’s game versus Botas. We’re looking to come out with the victory.
Aside from good basketball, Turkey has a lot of great restaurants. If I return to the States 20lbs heavier please don’t be surprised. I’ve had the chance to enjoy great restaurants with even better food. Enjoying breakfast, lunch, or dinner while looking out over the water just heightens the aesthetic. Happily Ever After, Chilai, and Fuego are just a few of the restaurants I’ve gotten a chance to enjoy since my arrival. Of course there are many more, but I’ll save those for later entries. All I can say is Istanbul gets 2 thumbs up on the cuisine.
Last month I got the chance to have Thanksgiving dinner with my close friends and teammates. My close friend flew in from NYC to prepare a big dinner for Cappie Pondexter and I, along with our teammates. It had been years since I had a real Thanksgiving dinner and this one was one to remember. We went on a turkey hunt which was entertaining considering we don’t speak turkish. There were lots of laughs with that adventure.
It’s now December and Christmas is right around the corner. If you don’t already know, Turkey is a predominately Muslim country; therefore, Christmas isn’t celebrated here. I’ll actually be at an away game during this time. I’m looking forward to having a great Christmas by exchanging gifts -grab bag- style with a few friends and teammates. No, it won’t be the same as celebrating with your immediate family, but I do get a chance to still be with close friends I truly care about. Hope you all enjoy your holiday!!!
Lastly, the album “Broken Diary” is in it’s last stages of mixing and mastering. With each song giving you a different aspect of my life and personality, I welcome you to come in a little closer to get to know Essence and Pr3pe. I know a double personality is so cliche nowadays, but in all honesty, that is exactly who I am and how I live in terms of my careers. Anyway, don’t want to make this too long so I’ll catch you guys next time!
