The Mets need players who can get on-base in the lineup, including the top of the lineup. Speed is essentially irrelevant. For all the drama, and for all that he was great to watch, Jose Reyes’ speed on the basepaths was only a very small part of his value.

Perhaps it’s time to watch Moneyball again?
