Liberty’s Pondexter Named WNBA Player of the Month

Cappie Pondexter finished the regular season averaging 20.4 points per game, third in the league.

Cappie Pondexter of the New York Liberty was named the WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month for her performance in September. The award is presented by Boost Mobile. It is the first time Pondexter has been named Player of the Month in her career.

The Liberty finished the WNBA regular season with a losing record of 15-19. However, they were able to clinch their third consecutive playoff berth due in large part to winning six of their last nine games to end the season. Pondexter played a big role in helping the Liberty reach this years playoffs.

Pondexter, in her seventh year, led the team down the stretch with 19.7 points and 5.3 assists per game through the final nine. She recorded two double-doubles in September including a 30 point, 11 rebound performance on the 16th against Washington.

Pondexter finished the regular season third in the league in scoring at 20.4 points per game.

The New York Liberty begin the WNBA playoffs on Thursday in Connecticut against the top seeded Sun. The Sun defeated the Liberty four out of five times the teams have matched up this season.
