DoubleGSports.com Staff Fantasy League Week 1 Recap

Added by Gregg Snyder on September 11, 2012.

There are a ton of fantasy advice articles and columns out there on the web for you to read. This weekly feature will not help if you are looking for who to sit and who to start on your own fantasy team. However, if you are looking to follow along with a fun, yet competitive league and see how your favorite writer is doing in our staff league, make sure you read through this each week.

Here is the Week 1 recap of the DoubleGSports.com staff fantasy league.

Closest Game

In the closest matchup of the week, Philip Mathew and his DeaconPride12 team held on for a 98-93 win over Jackie Daly’s Boys Breaking Hearts 2 squad. Jackie made a late rally, getting 20 points from Ray Rice. He led her team is points this week.

Philip got 12 points from Malcolm Floyd and four from Antonio Gates in the late Monday Night Football game to grab the win.

Most Points

Stephen Zimkouski is our Knicks writer, but his fantasy football team this week showed that he may know his football stuff as well. Eli to Nicks for Six had seven positions score double-digit points, led by 19 from Arian Foster. Overall, they scored a league high 113 points in Week 1.

He defeated our head Jets writer and his West Milly JOCs team which had an early lead when Tony Romo got 23 points Wednesday night. His team however took a hit when running back Michael Turner scored just three points.

Girls Can Play Too

We have two female participants in our staff league. As we already mentioned, Jackie’s team fell in Week 1. DoubleGSports Girl Rachel Staebler and her VictoriousSecret team came out with an opening week win over our football contributor Nathaniel Mathison. VictoriousSecret got 21 points from Drew Brees and 15 from Shonn Greene in route to her 103-66 win, proving she belongs with the boys.

Nathaniel’s Cruz Control team struggled as his running backs Fred Jackson and DeAngelo Williams combined for one point. Tom Brady led Cruz Control with 17 points.

Boss Man On Top

DoubleGSports.com founder and editor, Gregg Snyder put a pounding on Michael DiGiacomo’s Turf Story squad to open the season. Snyder’s Jersey G Force team was led by 20 points from quarterback Peyton Manning.

A bad personnel move by Turf Story could have hurt them this week. DiGiacomo left Adrian Peterson on the bench while starting Toby Gerhart at running back. Gerhard scored just one point while Peterson finished with 20. The move is a little easier to swallow since it still wouldn’t have been enough for the win.

No Party for Kardy

The Kardy Party, led by Trenton Thunder beat writer Matt Kardos, had a disappointing showing from Cam Newton (12 pts) and fell to The Violent Take it by Force, coached by Nets writer Deshawn Jelani. The Kardy Party also saw their Buffalo Bills defense get negative points this week. The final of this contest was a close 88-82 in favor of The Violent Take it by Force.

Unicorns Spike Catfish

The Black Unicorns and Giants head writer Ken Russo rode quarterback Matt Ryan to a 94-85 win over Denis Devaux and his CT Catfish squad. Matt Ryan had a monster game, scoring 31 points to lead the Unicorns. Julio Jones led the Catfish with 22 points.

Week 2 Look In

It just so happens that every matchup in Week 2 featured either two undefeated teams, or two teams looking for their first wins. The biggest matchup may be between division foes, VictoriousSecret and The Violent Take it by Force. Which teams will take a commanding 2-0 lead in their divisions and who will find themselves in an early season 0-2 hole?

Hey! I’d hardly say you put a pounding on me Mr. High and Mighty Week 1 champ! lol :) If I put AP on the bench and some of my players didn’t suck as much as Shaq’s rap album did, it would have been a different story.
