I'm not saying that Valdespin is better than Wright by any means.

Seaver, Hernandez, Strawberry, Piazza... Wright? Maybe it's all personal, but for some reason I just don't think he is worthy of being placed on such a high pedestal. 50 years from now I don't think he's still a Met icon.

And I just flat out disagree that he's worth the money right now. He goes to another team, he's not a standout like he is on the Mets.

I think they need to explore new talent.

And I would definitely root for a team of guys who I like to watch to play, ones who get excited about playing & winning. Not just a team of good players who is boring, and just goes out there cuz it's their job.

Really well written article Laura. Although you don't remember the Tom Seaver trade and neither do I because we weren't live lol franchises do move on. That is life. I've always liked David but not loved him. I don't see the Mets going anywhere at all any time soon and to me he's not THE franchise type of guy you build around. Yes he has all the records but he's not that Pujols or that type of guy who can carry a team. I want to see him stay but won't be crushed if he leaves.

I do not dispute your arguments but they would call for trading alot of players. Maybe Wright is getting tired of the clubs apathy. I am a David Wright fan and I want to see him win so let him go to a team that gives him a chance to win.

I disagree. You don't just let great players go and say "oh well we probably won't be good anyway" when you can easily keep them. And Wright is definitely worth his salary. If they think there is no way he's going to re-sign then they made explore trading him...but thats a different issue. They'd be nuts to just let him go this offseason.

And Valdespin isn't close to the player Wright is...not even close. And I don't care about seeing a rah rah overly emotional type...I'd rather see a guy who produces great numbers. Teams that win are the ones that have the best collection of productive playesr....not the ones who cheer and yell the loudest.
