New York Giants WR, Hakeem Nicks

The University of North Carolina has vacated New York Giants’ star receiver, Hakeem Nick’s 2008 prolific, final season this past Friday due to NCAA violations.

Nicks was deemed, “academically ineligible” after he, and former teammates, Omar Brown and Mahlon Carey received gifts valued up to $3000. Allegations also include Nicks benefited from “academic fraud” by receiving improper academic help in 2008 from a tutor.

The former Tar Heel, holds the record for career receiving touchdowns with 21, and TDs in a season with 12 in 2008. He also holds records for receiving yards in a career with 2,840, in a season with 1,222 in 2008, as well as the career receptions record with 181 and season record with 74 in 2007.

Nicks joins an infamous list of NCAA vacated players, games and seasons that all bear those controversial, notorious, “asterisk” by their respective achievements.
