The New York Mets Version of Musical Chairs

Blood clots found in Dillon Gee will force him to miss time.

First, Johan Santana is having starts moved around by the New York Mets because his ankle was stepped on. Now, Dillon Gee is having clot issues. Hopefully it’s a quick thing like Bobby Parnell had last year, but with clots it could be long term also. Gee is in the hospital and the clot was broken up but he is under observation the next two days.

So, Santana was going to get that first start out of the break on Friday night and then it was Gee. Obviously it won’t be Gee now that he is going on the 15-day DL.

The Mets did plan to use Jon Niese in that spot but have now chosen to go with Chris Young. Just don’t know why…he is a 5-6 inning pitcher and coming out of the break the Mets run the NL East gauntlet. At least save the bullpen coming out of the break and let Niese start that game.

Right now it looks like Young, R.A. Dickey, Niese then Santana and Wednesday might be Miguel Batista. Batista has not been good this year. I would put that plan for Dickey to start more often into place until Gee is back unless it’s long term. If it’s long term then it might be Harvey time.

The Mets DFA’d Schwinden again but to clear him from the 40 man roster. Either Edgin or Carson will probably get the call but there is a new wrinkle. JC Romero has been released by the Orioles and his numbers in Norfolk were not that bad. Would not be surprised to see the Mets take a flyer on him.

And speaking of dead weight, Jason Bay will be back for the Nationals series. Why don’t they let this guy get some actual rehab games and learn to hit again. He is not the answer to the missing bat. If Hairston wasn’t so bad in the field, I’d throw him out there over Bay.
