Mets Injury Updates on July 4th

Kirk Nieuwenhuis is one of a few Mets nursing injuries.
Jason Bay is riding a bike and has not starting baseball activities yet but he will soon if he keeps progressing. If it was me making the decisions around this team, I would have been tempted to put him on the 60-day DL and really make sure he’s okay. I have been a detractor but the guy deserves to have a normal life and concussions are such an unknown.
In terms of his contract, I’d consider a settlement like the Red Sox did with Bobby Jenks and let whoever sign him. If he does well then fine but I just don’t see it happening. I think he needs to consider being a slugging pinch hitter or part timer. It worked for Andruw Jones who is now a solid contributor off the bench for the Yankees.
Captain Kirk is hurt, he has a hand bruise. He may even go on the DL but check out this Stupid Met Trick. They called up Valdespin and DFA’d Hampson. The Mets need another lefty in the pen and Kirk may go on the DL, so they DFA the lefty before making a decision on Kirk. Brilliant.
Frank Francisco is getting ready to ramp up his rehab, if everything works out right, he should back after the All Star break. He better hope that Parnell doesn’t get many chances to lock down the job or he might end up being trade bait. Though I did think him and Rauch were here just to be traded midseason but with the Mets exceeding expectations of most people, they probably aren’t going anywhere.
Mike Baxter is headed to Florida so he might be headed for some action soon. He has hit off a tee. Seeing the hero of the no hitter come back could be a boost to the team. You can only hope he still has the same clutch performan ces after the injury.
For the first time in a long time, most of the Mets are actually on the field.
