Allie Long Returns as NY Fury take on the Chesapeake Charge

Added by Steven Farkas on June 28, 2012.

Allie Long will return for tonight's game.

The New York Fury takes on the ASA Chesapeake Charge in WPSL Elite League action tonight.  After a four game road trip for New York, they return home against the Charge.  The Fury still hold the last playoff position in the standings and a win tonight will go a long way to solidifying that playoff spot.

“We are starting to get healthier and fitter and we are looking forward to playing four out of our last five games at home,” said New York Fury coach Paul Riley. “We have a great opportunity to close the gap on the leaders and get ourselves a concrete playoff spot. We have enjoyed a terrific week of practice and with only Tobin (Heath) and Tina (DiMartino) missing we are getting closer to where we need to be.”

The Charge come into the game at 1-6-1, well behind the playoff spots.  Both teams are coming off of a loss , the Charge loss to the first place Chicago Red Stars 3-1, while the Fury lost for the second time to Boston 2-0.

These two teams met previously on June 17th.  The Fury defeated the Charge in that game 2-0.

Riley is counting on the return of Allie Long, who is the former captain of Sky Blue FC in Women’s Professional Soccer.

“Allie will be a massive plus for us. She is a soccer brainiac and fits our system really well,” said Riley. “This is a very important homestand for us and our goal is to ensure our playoff spot by July 4th which will require two wins, against Chesapeake tonight and the New England Mutiny next Tuesday.”

Here’s to hoping there will be a post season for the Fury.  If they can win their next two, then they will be guaranteed that last playoff spot with three games remaining in their regular season.
