It’s big decision time for the New York Mets, and someone just made it very very hard.
Ike Davis is finally heating up and looking like he might be locked in. This isn’t the random hit then back to nothing scenario we have seen so far this season. In his past few games, Davis is hitting with power, walking, and not looking so bad at the plate.
Jason Bay is up, but he’s looked horrible except for his first hit since he came back. Terry Collins even admitted that he thinks Bay did not have enough of a rehab. Seriously? Did he even play in those games? He missed games being sick then when he got called up he was still sick.
Bay should have had a full 30-day rehab to see if he can get anything back but we all know he can’t. He now has a slider speed bat. Which is not the end of the world, look at Mike Morse who had 30 HRs last year. Bay just has to accept he will never be that guy again.
The Mets could always send a young player down but what good does that do.
Jordany Valdespin and Captain Kirk both sat out yesterday while Bay played. They both had great games the night before but it was more of a matchup thing (which I think is utterly ridiculous). Bay matches up with no one.
If Bay wasn’t paid so much he’d be gone. And with Den Dekker breezing through Binghamton and moving to Buffalo, he might even get here this year, then you have a major numbers issue though Torres could be a casualty too which he probably will be since he makes a very low salary.
The team is a contender for now, why not try to keep it that way.
