New York Fury Take On The Philly Fever Tonight

The addition of Sinead Farrelly should help Paul Riley's New York Fury.

Coming off their first loss of the season, The New York Fury take on the Philadelphia Fever tonight, 7pm at Hofstra University.  The Fever are the only non-preexisting team in the WPSL Elite League and they have not yet been able to get a win, having tied New England 2-2 and losing to the Charge 3-2.

The Fury are hoping to get back on the winning side of the scoreboard.  Head coach Paul Riley believes the team has not yet reached it’s full potential.

“We need to start with some clean sheets and figure out our best, most productive midfield unit,” Riley said. “We truly have not found our rhythm yet, but the return of Sinead Farrelly will certainly help. We are still without Allie Long, which hurts us creatively in the midfield.”

While the Fever may very well prove a challenge to the Fury, on paper, at least, the Fury should be the far superior team.   But there have already been some lackluster performances by the top teams in the league, and, after last week, the Fury are included in that list.  The Fever may be winless, but even the tie with New England has shown they can compete against an all professional side, even though they remain amateur with a roster of college eligible players.

Riley wants his players to get more ruthless and hungry, asking them to play their best and forget the sweet fairness.  “We need to find our best lineup, and we need to find the hunger that made so many of these players beasts in Philadelphia,” said Riley, speaking of his former Independence players from the WPS.  “We have been too nice and sweet so far. Our approach needs to be more professional and more ruthless.”

Well, let’s hope they come out of the gate with that ruthless and hungry attitude tonight and send the Fever packing with their winless record intact.
