Jets Football: Focus On The Future, Not The Past
Added by Courtney Aurillo on March 18, 2012.
Hello my fellow Jets fans -
I am not going to focus on news we already know and are kind of sick of hearing. I will state my opinion real quick. Mark Sanchez has received a contract extension. This is proof that the Jets organization has faith in Mark and believes he is their guy that will lead them to a long overdue Super Bowl win. Great.
Now that he has concrete details to discuss, Mark steps out in the public to address them. Expected. Now that he is back in the public eye, he is being criticized for everything he is saying! And not just what he is saying, but the way he says it! It’s the critique of a lifetime if you ask me, and it’s excessive.
ESPN’s Michael Kay purposely asked Mark questions which he knew were inappropriate or would rub Mark the wrong way. Given this is a part of Mr. Kay’s job, Mark accepted that and answered (or did not answer) in the appropriate manner. Colin Cowherd’s critique of Michael Kay’s interview resulted in Mark “lying to the public” because he mentioned three times he is not bothered by the fact Mike T. took a quick glance at Peyton Manning.
So what’s the big deal? Do you want it to bother him? If I were beleaguered by the same negative questions that reminisced the past I would be fed up as well. The media is testing a player who has not had the fair opportunity to prove himself yet regarding the current situation. By this I simply mean it is still the off-season. None of the players are even allowed to interact with the coaching staff yet. He hasn’t played yet this year, so how can one be so quick to judge his up and coming performance!
Mark is not dwelling in the past and we should not either.
With that said, let’s focus on the future. Currently we now have a second quarterback with Drew Stanton. Great move due to the fact the O-line is being revamped. He has some experience, and will understand his role as a Jets backup QB. And no, to the negative fans, he will not threaten Mark or pressure him in anyway.
We also signed WR Chaz Schilens who will be competing for a starting position in the 2012/13 season. Schilens has the height similar to another player we brought in last year to assist Mark in the red zone. Could he replace him? What I like is that he WANTED to play with the Jets and work again with his former coach, Sanjay Lal.
The Jets are seeking out a Safety. This weekend will put us one step closer to finding out if the two picks, LaRon Landry or Reggie Nelson, will come to terms. The favored is Nelson due to his coverage skills. More to follow on that topic later.
I have accepted the challenge my wonderful friend (and Bears fan) Jennifer Hesser has asked of me – to state my opinion about the threatening Brandon Marshall (Traded from Miami to Chicago). The Jets do not have to face him, so that’s cool. Besides, now we have Mario Williams to prepare for (signed with Buffalo). The NFC North will have competition with the key match up of Marshall and Cutler at the reigns. Some defensive lines will have to step it up. I can’t form a strong opinion about this duo, however, because I am not a Cutler fan.
Free Agency is running amuck and Gang Green is still making changes, so until then…
