Outlaws Shut Out Cape Cod

Wayne, NJ – The New Jersey Outlaws defeated the Cape Cod Bluefins by the score of 4-0. The first period was in favor of the Bluefins but ended 0-0. It was a very fast moving game, there weren’t many penalties and no fights at all. The Outlaws took a 1-0 lead at the 2:35 mark of the second period and then scored three goals in the last five minutes of the second period to take a 4-0 lead. There was no scoring in the third period at all.
The first goal of the second period was from Matthew Puntureri and assisted by Kevin Cooper and Jason Reese. The second goal was scored at the 13:44 mark by Trevor Karasiewicz and assisted by Jeff Winchester. Travis Kauffeldt the captain scored 43 seconds later to give the Outlaws a 3-0 lead. His goal was assisted by Anthony Battaglia and Winchester. The final goal was scored at the 17:04 mark by Reese and assisted by Karasiewicz and Puntureri.
There were no penalties in the first and third periods and three in the second period. Cape Cod was 0-2 on the power play and New Jersey was 0-1. Cape Cod had 29 shots in the game to the 28 by New Jersey. The three stars of the game were Karasiewicz from the Outlaws as the third star, Reese of the Outlaws as the second star. The first star of the game was the goalie from the Outlaws for his shutout. Dan McWhinney was the first star. The losing goalie was Obrien.
The Outlaws will remain at home and take on 1000 Islands tomorrow afternoon. The Outlaws remain in first place in the Federal Hockey league and have 99 points on the season. The game was very fast paced with only three penalties and no fights.  All the scoring was in the second period and three of the four goals came within a five minute span.
The game lasted two hours and 13 minutes.  The attendance was 971, it was a very good crowd tonight.  It seemed more crowded then usual and it was a loud crowd.  There were a lot of kids in attendance.  The Outlaws have a few more home games left and then they will start the playoffs.  It looks like they will have the number one seed and possibly take on Cape Cod in the first round.  If the standings hold that would be the case.
The two teams have met seven times with New Jersey winning all of them.  There are ten games left in the season for the Outlaws and six of them are at home.  The season concludes on March 4th and the playoffs will begin shortly after that.
