The Knicks Have A New Fan Favorite And His Name Is Jeremy Lin

In a weekend that was enhanced significantly by a Giants Super Bowl victory for fans like myself, we saw an unlikely player emerge on the New York sports scene. His name is Jeremy Lin and he plays for the New York Knicks.

Lin was a standout player at Harvard University filling up every statistic in the box score. Unlike most Knick fans and basketball fans I can say that I expected Lin to succeed at the NBA level and have always liked his game. In college Lin played much like he has in his past two games with the Knicks, with relentless passion and intelligence. While playing against lesser talent in the Ivy League Lin averaged 16.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.4 steals and 1.1 blocks per game in his senior season.

Having said that let me be the first to say and many might think I’m crazy but Jeremy Lin will continue to produce at the point guard position. Now, is Lin going to average 25ppg, 7apg and 5rpg? Not by any means, but he will continue to do what he has been doing and what no other point guard on the Knicks roster has been able to do so far, get to the hoop.

Lin plays the game with so much heart and has toughness and passion that can only be described by watching him play. He’s more than just a folk hero in his native Northern California or an Asian American role model, the kids a true baller.

The injury depleted Knicks have turned to Harvard grad Jeremy Lin and early results have been positive.

Some of the reasons why Lin has been able to achieve success in the past two games is his ability to run the pick and roll to perfection. He gets his teammates involved and makes smart decisions and more than that he has been able to get to the hoop at will.

Like I said, I’ve always believed in the guy and have been a huge fan of him from his college play (much like I like Reggie Williams from the Bobcats). Sometimes you just like players and you don’t know why, but don’t get me wrong I’m by no means saying that he’s the second coming of Steve Nash.

For a team that hasn’t been fun to watch he has brought excitement back to the Knicks faithful when it was the most needed. Lin will most likely not have Amare Stoudemire or Carmelo Anthony for the Knicks next game against the Washington Wizards much like in the past game with Carmelo leaving early with an injury.
