What if the Mets Had a Chance at 11 More Championships? New Rule Gives More Opportunities

Yes I know we can say “what if” about everything in life but this one could have been feasible with the new playoff system which may go into place this year.

By adding another team to the playoffs, the Mets would have been in the playoffs 1984-1990, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2006, 2007 and 2008.

They won it all in 1986, had a bunch of AAA players there in 2000, and we all know about Carlos Beltran in 2006 and Willie’s bad situational management. Then we had the collapses in 2007 and 2008 which might have been different if they got into the playoffs.

The Mets might have been bringing in the fans and the Wilpons might not be broke right now. Jose Reyes might still be a Met. The Mets might actually be looking at A-B level free agents like they have in the past instead of shopping at the dollar store for scraps.

It would be a different world as a Mets fan if they actually had more playoff runs like the Yankees and Red Sox. Even the Rays have been there more than the Mets in recent history.
