NJ Outlaws: 4-3 Win Over 1000 Islands

The New Jersey Outlaws defeated the 1000 Islands Privateers by the score of 4-3 tonight. It was at 1000 Islands and the game went to overtime. Travis Kauffeldt the captain got the game winning goal less than a minute into the overtime. The shots were 42-31 in favor of the Outlaws. It was 2-1 Outlaws after the first period. It was a tie game after two and a tie game after the third. Each team was 1-3 on the powerplay.
Brett Liscomb got the Outlaws on the board at 4:53 of the first period. He was assisted by Trevor Karasiewicz and Kauffeldt. Matt Miller scored on the powerplay at the 7:14 mark of the first period. He was assisted by Nathan Oke and Anthony Battaglia. Brad Smulders got 1000 Islands on the board at 9:06 of the first period. The assists were from Jeremy Akeson and Brian Marks. Ryan Pearson scored the only goal of the second period for the Privateers to tie the game at two. Michael Byrd and Adam McAllister assisted on the goal which was scored at the 18:04 mark of the second period.
Miller scored his second goal of the game at 3:24 of the third period. He had assists from Battaglia and John Goffredo. Paul Kelly tied the game at three on the powerplay. It was at 8:52 of the third period and he was assisted by Smulders and Corey Laurysen. Kauffeldt scored the game winning goal 53 seconds into the overtime. The assist was from Oke.
There were no fights in the game, at least that generated any penalties. There were a couple of roughing and unsportsmanlike penalties. Dan McWhinney got the win for the Outlaws and Matt Anthony took the loss. The game lasted two hours and 35 minutes and there were 978 people in attendance. The three stars of the game were McWhinney as the third star, Anthony from the Privateers as the second star and Miller as the first star.
The two teams will meet again Saturday night in 1000 Islands. The game starts at 7:05PM.
