Greetings Jets Fans -
First of all I would like to thank Double G Sports for making me the head New York Jets writer. I have been a die-hard fan since I was seven, and know all I do about football thanks to my father (he played for a few years). Since the Jets are a very controversial team with the craziest and opinionated fans out of all other teams, I expect some interesting feedback about the articles I write about. Keep in mind this is not a blog, but more fact mixed with opinion. The postings can range from an event that occurred in the past, to the latest trade. I am also opened to suggestions.
So shall we begin our venture with Gang Green?
I feel there is more action going on currently with the Jets in their off-season than there has been during their regular season. People are going to believe what they want to, but I always say to get your information straight from the source – press conferences and news straight from the coach’s mouth. Of course Ryan and Tannenbaum are not going to talk about every detail, but being two down-to-earth guys, they will say enough of what needs to be said. We all know about the rumors soaring and fingers being pointed, and players hiding behind their comments. However, there are some players that are not hiding, and are being vocal with their opinions and what goes on behind closed doors.
The media is no help, and of course negative news is broadcasted more so than the positive. Unfortunately Jets fans thrive on media coverage, and have not held back their feelings about Rex’s Super Bowl promises and the players’ performance, resulting in an 8-8 season. Mr. Ryan is known for being vocal about his team and his expectations which I personally do not see being a problem. The fan’s reaction after a not-so-wonderful season has changed, and now believe Rex should cut back on publicizing his feelings.
Now everyone is going to have their opinions, but I strongly believe that had the Jets a better season, less complaints would be coming from the peanut gallery about Ryan’s comments. Think back to the days of Hard Knocks – both Rex and the players were pretty vocal about their expectations. I did not hear or read nearly as many complaints from fans back then.
There are other factors that come into play that define the Jets performance this past season. Fingers have been pointed at Sanchez and Schottenheimer. Did we forget that there was a lockout?? Mark Sanchez had a new offensive line to work with, however, little time to practice with. A number of little problems add up to the one big problem of the performance of Gang Green this past season.
The good thing is, even though March 13th is a big make-or-break day, the coaching staff of the Jets have already begun to make improvements, and so far, they all look promising.
Go Jets.
