It was all good when Rex Ryan came to town and installed a solid, hardnosed; smack you in the face style defense, to go along with a rushing game that was dominant for the first two years of his stay here as the New York Jets head coach. A defense and run game that played so well, people did not put too much into the quarterback play. All we’ve heard for the past two years is how Sanchez “took the Jets to two AFC Championship Games.”
The voices gave most of the credit to Sanchez, but it was the defense that carried the Jets to the point where they even had a chance to see the playoffs. It coeternally was not the inconsistent play of Sanchez that carried them to that point. It’s a joke!
Now! Three years later, frustration has mounted over the inconsistent play of Mark Sanchez. Players are now coming out and expressing their true feelings on what they have seen from Sanchez since he became the starter. Players are frustrated because they are the ones that are actually there in the locker room, on the sidelines, and in the huddle. These are the guys that would know better than anyone what type of quarterback Sanchez is. It’s time for the media to stop making coaches and players the scapegoat for a quarterback that just does not have what it takes to lead this Jets team.
Forget the good looks, commercials, and magazines. Sanchez has been given every opportunity in three years to show he was worth the Jets moving up in the draft to select him 6th overall, and to this point, he has still too much to learn, in too many areas, in many people’s eyes. But to me, he is what he is.
I think the bigger issue however is at the top of this organization. It’s time that people start looking at the job Mike Tannenbaum has done. It’s time to evaluate his performance as the “shot caller”, the guy that has the final say on each and every drafted player, and or free agent that stepped into that Jets locker room.
One would have to question: other than his expertise in finance (salary cap), what kind of leadership qualities does Tannenbaum have, where is the organizational structure coming from?
Who at the top of this organization is setting the standard for the “New York Jet Way”, what voice carries down to the team in terms of what the expectations are for success?
Who is the guy that holds players accountable? We’ve seen guys like Sanchez have bad series after bad series, and just walk to the sideline, no one gets in his face as he walks over, takes a seat, and looks up to the sky as if he has no interest in the games, or could care less about putting added pressure on his defense to make a play time after time.
We know about guys like Calvin Pace who was brought in to sack the opposing quarterbacks. What have the Jets really gotten from him and his 45 plus million dollar contract, other than a good run stuffer? Who is responsible?
Who is responsible for the bad decision for not addressing one quality offensive lineman in the offseason, after losing a pro bowl player in D-Woody?
Who determined that the Jets and Mark Sanchez could run a spread offense going into 2011, signing three big name wide receivers but could not find a way to get the ball to any of these guys enough to maximize their big play ability?
Who made the decision to use a number one pick, (29th overall) on CB Kyle Wilson, who has struggled to hold on to the 3rd corner spot? Offensive lineman, Vladimir Ducasse with the second pick, this guy has been a major disappointment. Running back Joe McKnight with the 4th pick in that same draft, this kid is a fumble waiting to happen.
Free again S Brodney Pool, what happen to him, where was the big hitting we heard he would bring? Who is responsible?
What is the reason for this team being so riddled with penalties each and every game? Who is responsible for the team, and game play discipline? I can go on and on with questions regarding the leaders (shot callers) at the top of this organization. It seems to me watching this team over the past three years, there has been a lot of radical decisions made here, without any real purpose or reasoning behind them..
The clock has to start clicking on Mike Tannenbaum because he is the guy with the biggest influence at the top of this franchise. Woody has given Tannenbaum all the resources to go out and “shop for the groceries”, the issue has been, what is the recipe for the final product?
