Sky Blue FC will be holding open try-outs on February 23rd and 24th at the Metuchen SportsPlex. These try-outs are for women 18 years old or older and want the opportunity to play on a professional soccer team in the Women’s Professional Soccer league. Just imagine the broadcaster talking about the undrafted star and you come to realize he’s talking about you.
“Open tryouts give us a great opportunity to see up-and-coming talent looking to grace WPS,” assistant coach Emma Hayes stated. “We expect at least a couple of players to be invited into preseason camp, so it’s a wonderful opportunity for the players.”
You’ll need a couple of things for the try-outs. The first is $100, which is the cost of entering into the try-out. Yeah, it’s a bit pricey, but what price do you put on a dream. You’ll need to sign a liability waiver and show proof of medical insurance. Once again, onerous, but I have to tell you, if my daughter wanted to play professional soccer then I would be excited that there is the opportunity to do so no matter the cost and work involved. The fact that Sky Blue doesn’t just look for stars well known in the sport but also look for the young diamond in the rough who has not yet reached stardom.
”We now have open tryouts set, and that means the preseason is not too far away,” Sky Blue FC head coach Jim Gabarra remarked. “This is the point where teams start looking at players a little more closely to truly refine their rosters. We want to put together a top roster here at Sky Blue FC, and this is an exciting time of year. As with any sport, the approach of the preseason means anything is possible.”
Draft day for the WPS is this Friday in Kansas City, so the coaching staff should have an idea of what they are looking for after that. Who knows, what they may be looking for is you.
In order to attend players need to register online at skybluesoccer.com under the shop link. On February 23rd, two sessions will be conducted, with the first running from 10:00-12:00 p.m. and second from 1:00-3:00 p.m. The following day, the two sessions will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. and 1:00-3:00 p.m. These times are subject to change, but participants will be notified if that occurs.
So if you are a female soccer player and you’re 18 years old the American dream could be just a few computer clicks away. But you have to register by February 21st. Good luck!
