Time for a change; Rex Must Gain Control. Will Sanchez ever be ready?

Added by Marvin Turner on January 2, 2012.

The New York Jets season came crashing down in Miami on Sunday. It was very typical and fitting how it all ended in my opinion, because I have been Mark Sanchez’s worst critic from the day he was drafted by the Jets. However, most of the blame for this season has to be placed on the shoulders of Rex Ryan and Mike Tannenbaum.

I wrote about this just about every week this year after each game. This team is one of the most undisciplined teams I have ever seen as a Jets fan, and that starts with the head coach. I also wrote about the fact that Rex Ryan places a big target on each and every player that he coaches on Sundays, by going out in the media, telling the world how great his players are. This makes it difficult for a team of very average players to live up to the label that Rex has placed on them.

I love Rex Ryan, but he continues to make a fool out of himself, and his team, leaving players, coaches, commentators etc, around the NFL laughing at him each and every time he opens his mouth to bluster about his team in front of the cameras, then show up on Sunday and can’t perform up to the standard he set. It’s one thing to lose a game after opening your mouth, but it’s another thing when week in and week out, your team is getting penalty after penalty, putting the team in bad situations.

Your offense can’t score unless the defense sets them up, you have a QB that is in his 3rd year in the same “SYSTEM” haha!!, and all we keep listening to is “HE’S STILL YOUNG”. The same QB that plays the position as if he is in the park playing 5-on-5 (seven Mississippi) football, gets giddy and nervous on every snap, displaying no control of the offense. Mark Sanchez can not read a defense, and still in his 3rd year is staring down receivers, making it easy on defenders to intercept his passes.

You have all this going on with the offense, meanwhile the defense is out on the field trying, working so hard to keep the team in each and every game, and when they can’t hold up at certain points in a game, when they have a break down, and give up a big play or a winning score, they take the blame because Rex is a “defensive genius”, and does not hold his offensive coordinator or QB accountable.

You look at what took place in the Miami game, Rex came right out and said he did not even know why Santonio Holmes was not on the field. This is his captain, a pro bowl receiver! This talks to my point about Rex not having very much influence with his offense. That must change in 2012.

And by the way, I’ve heard all day on radio shows, TV and all; people talking about Santonio Holmes, criticizing the receiver because he was frustrated during the game..

Guess what people, if you play with a QB that can’t throw the ball to his receivers you would be frustrated too. This was another big game for the Jets (3 weeks in a row) where all they needed was to win one, and you’re in the playoffs. The 3rd year leader, Sanchez, could not step up and deliver in a big spot, on a big stage.

Time for Change…
