Once again Rex Ryan is humbled on the big stage

Added by Marvin Turner on December 27, 2011.

Rex Ryan once again, 2 out of the 3 years he’s coached here, finds himself having to get help to get into the playoffs. Many say in year one, the Colts gave the Jets a gift by sitting Payton Manning in a game that the Colts did not need. After a rocky up and down 2011 season, here we are 2 years later, where Rex Ryan is siting on the outside of the playoffs door, asking for help to get in, which brings me to this past weeks game against the Giants.
With all the talk coming from the Jet locker room, talk that started with Rex Ryan blustering against the Giants, we witnessed another embarrassing let down, in another big moment for Rex Ryan and this franchise.  Jets sure enough follow their theme for 2011 in that game, average QB play, false starts, holding, pass interference, hands to the face, intentional grounding, interceptions in bad areas, pick 6′s, and even unsportsmanlike calls.. I wrote about this before the game, how all these issues would effect the outcome of Giants game for these Jets.
With all that said, I have to point out the one factor in the Giant game that was pretty obvious, and that was bad coaching on the Jets sideline. I just don’t believe that Rex Ryan has the ability to motivate his team when playing in critical, must win games. This team has played undisciplined football all year long and no one has talked about it, or even questioned Rex Ryan on it.
After the game everyone had an opinion on what went wrong, it was the QB’s fault, the offensive coordinator, the head coach, we’ve heard it all. Again, read the article that i posted before the game, that will give you perspective on who the 2011 New York Jets are.
The one question I had right after the game, seeing Rex Ryan walk over to snake the hand of Tom Coughlin, how many times are you going to have to humble yourself by snaking the winners hand after blustering about who you are, and what you can and will do. IS HE EVER GOING TO LEARN!!!  Then! after every beat down of his team, and being out coached, we always here from Rex “THEY WERE THE BETTER TEAM TODAY, BUT I’LL GO PLAY THEM RIGHT NOW AGAIN”.. HAHA!!
See, that is my issue with Rex, talking for the team, Rex, maybe your Jets know that they are just not that good. Yeah, YOU will play them right now, but maybe your team; that just got a beat down, does not feel the same way. You talk about how great Mark Sanchez is, I will bet you anything that a lot of those offensive players don’t feel that Sanchez is not great at all, and is not the QB to lead them.
We here Rex and other Sanchez supporters mention, “well he took them to two AFC championship games” , my question to Rex would be, why don’t you give yourself, and your defense the credit for carrying Sanchez to that point, after average play from him during the regular season?
How can you have a 3rd year QB in the same offensive system, and still have no identity to who you are as an offense, and no progression from the QB? And for those who say he has progressed, how can you evaluate progression when each game Sanchez plays, he is not the same QB. The theme has been! he has one week where he wins a game in the 4th quarter (after the defense kept the offensive in the game). The next 2 games, they lose because of inconsistent play, mistakes at the line, interceptions, throwing into double coverage, and the list goes on. How can anyone say this kid has progressed?

What are people going to say next year when this Sanchez is in his 4th year, what will they say then? He is not a smart QB. As long as Rex Ryan is couching this team, each and every game that they win, will be lead by there defense, as long as Sanchez is the leader of the offense. The Jets have made every adjustment to try and accommodate Sanchez’s skills. They tried to be a running team, they tried to pass it more, the tried giving some color system to Sanchez for help him make better decisions on the field, they went out and got Sanchez big play talent to get the ball too, nothing has work consistently. Sanchez’s lack of progress has held this team, and some very good talent back. Those who don’t agree, I say this: Place any of the top QB’s in the game on this Jet with this much talent. I would even go as far as saying, give me Matt Moore of the Dolphins and the way he has been throwing that ball all over the field this year, I would bet the 2011 season result for the Jets would be different.
