Rutgers Romps Iona in 62-29 Win

Added by Jonathan Chen on December 20, 2011.

Rutgers Women Basketball took on Iona last Sunday and April Sykes proved herself to be a future WNBA player. Since the beginning of the game, Rutgers took the lead and never looked back. They outscored the Iona 23 to 15 points in the 1st half despite of the 7-28, 25%, field goal percentage. Sykes ended up tallying up 18 of the points along with 5 individual rebounds and 1 block to add. In addition, Shakena Richardson added 9 points with 2-5 from the arc. Rutgers ended up having all but 2 people score points from the whole roster. In the second half, the domination continued to build. Rutgers limited Iona to even less than the first half with 14 points while also adding 39 points towards their 62 total points. Most of the damage came off of Iona’s turnovers, 26 in total, which gave the Scarlet Knights a 29 point boost.

C. Vivian Stringer’s team, once again, is proving to be the typical type of team Rutgers’ fans know. April Sykes, averaging over 15 points per game, was named Big East Weekly Honor Roll to add to her spectacular weekend. From her games this season, she looks as having the potential of being the next Cappie Pondexter. She is putting up the same types of points and likes to drive down the lane and score. Sykes is also known to hit 3 pointers in clutch situations.

Stringer and her Scarlet Knights take on Georgetown this next Friday, December 30th in Washington D.C. at 7 P.M. as they take a break for the holidays.
