Three pitches into the game and the Trenton Thunder (33-21) were down 2-0 to current division leading New Hampshire Fisher Cats (35-19). By the middle of the third inning the Thunder were down 5-0. But by the end of the third inning the Thunder cut the lead to 5-3 on the strength of Cody Johnson, Jose Pirela, and DeAngelo Mack RBI Singles.
Starting Pitcher Shaeffer Hall (5-3, 3.63) settled down and the Thunder added a run in the fifth and sixth innings to tie the score at 5-5. In the seventh inning the Fisher Cats scored on a Wild Pitch to take a 6-5 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh Trenton grabbed the lead when Corban Joseph ripped a double that was misplayed in left field allowing Ray Kruml to score and give the Thunder a 7-6 win.
Trenton pitcher Tim Norton came in and shut the door for his fifth save of the season and the Thunder was only two games out of first place. The Thunder have two more games against the division leading Fisher Cats. A series sweep would put the Thunder in first place.
The Thunder also avoided losing back to back games for the first time since late April.
Game 2 against the Fisher Cats is tonight at 7:05 pm come early if last night’s attendance of 6,406 was any indication tickets will be hard to get.
